Make a simple sock puppet

Puppets are a great way to enjoy playing inside a book – being different character, acting out the story , playing with the language of a book.

Here’s how to make a sock puppet:

• Choose an old sock – either child size or adult but preferably plain

• Sew on button eyes

• Add fabric ears and nose – felt if you have it. You could also use card or paper.

• Add more details as appropriate eg for a cat you might add whiskers or for a snake you might add a tongue

Make a puppet to represent one of the characters in a story. If you make more than one, you and your child could have one puppet each and they could have a conversation.

For example we suggest using a sock puppet  in our activity page for the book Max the Brave by Ed Vere
